New Student Programs | First-Year Student Emails

JULY 14, 2021

Hi there, {{Preferred}}!

As we get closer to Orientation Week, we hope your transition to Emory is starting to feel more real. Last week you received important information about the advising and registration process, including details on your Pre-Registration Advisor (PRA) and how to schedule your summer advising meeting!

Here are a few things for you to consider as you approach registration:

  1. If you have not yet scheduled your PRA and can't find the email we sent last week (remember it was only sent to your Emory email) please reach out to our advising team to request a resend of that message. You can reach the team at
  2. Be prepared by creating multiple variations of your schedule using the Course Atlas with many different possibilities for classes and meeting times. If a class is full, this will give you easy access to other options!
  3. Select 'No' for the "Waitlist if class is full?" question when adding courses to your shopping cart. You should plan to register for open classes first, and then use the 'Waitlist Swap If' feature later in the registration process.
  4. Remember that you have four years at Emory. This means you have a lot of time to complete general education requirements, space to plan out pre-requisites, and an opportunity to take amazing courses that might fill quickly. You don't have to do it all in the fall!
  5. Come to your pre-registration meeting with good questions. You'll get the most out of your time with your PRA if you've built some sample schedules and considered pre-requisites for a potential major or two (or three...) It's okay to be undecided, and to spend your first year exploring but it's good to have an idea of where you might want to start that exploration.
  6. If you are unavailable to participate in course registration (August 9-11) and need assistance, Emory College staff are here to help. If you will not have internet access, have difficulties due to your time zone, or believe you have extenuating circumstances during the designated registration period, please complete the Registration Assistance form by August 5. One of our team members will reach out with next steps.
